Ever notice how some friends can drink coffee at midnight and sleep perfectly, while others get jitters from a morning cup? Our bodies respond uniquely to substances, and microdosing is no different.

This blog is designed to help you customise your unique protocol. Everything you need to know from finding your ideal sweet spot, to the time of day you microdose and including stacking where other vitamins/compounds are included for a most potent microdosing practice. 

Beginners Protocol

If you’ve joined our group coaching calls, you would have heard me compare microdosing protocols to making chicken soup. We all know what it is, but we all have our own unique recipes. Microdosing protocols are the same.

There are no steadfast rules so we must rely on intuition, research, attention and experimentation.

As beginner’s we recommend the Fadiman protocol and if you are more advanced you can then proceed to more complicated protocols like the Neurogenesis Stack.

As I said above, there is research required of us when we microdose, so be sure to have a look at the articles linked throughout this blog.

Understanding Your Sweet Spot

Your microdosing sweet spot is deeply personal. It’s that precise amount where you experience benefits without noticeable psychoactive effects. When you’ve found it, you’ll notice subtle but meaningful improvements in your day – better mood, natural focus, and emotional resilience. It’s not about feeling “on” something; it’s about feeling more like yourself.

If you’re experiencing obvious effects like feeling spacey, seeing visual changes, or feeling anxious, you’ve gone beyond your sweet spot. That’s valuable information – it means you need to adjust downward.

When it comes to the sweet spot, it’s useful to keep in mind that your ideal dose might change over time. One you get into your 2nd or 3rd cycle, you might notice that your dose can be lowered significantly. If this is true for you, not to worry, this is common and totally understandable. In this case, adjust your dosage as needed when needed.

Finding Your Perfect Dose

Dosage is a single term encompassing both frequency of dosage and dosage amount.

Here’s what you need to know:

Start with 0.25 grams (1/4 gram) of truffles on a quiet morning when you have no important commitments. This gives you space to observe how your body responds. Pay attention to subtle shifts in your mood, energy, and thought patterns throughout the day.

After a few sessions, you’ll know whether to adjust. If you’re feeling nothing after 2-3 sessions, try increasing by 0.1g. If you’re feeling too much, decrease by the same amount. Do not double up the dose from 0.25 to 0.5 to 0.75, these leaps in dosage are not recommended.

Remember to give yourself at least 48 hours between doses. Allow yourself to experience the afterglow effect aka the exact opposite of a hangover.

Important to track your doses so that you can look back and get a macro level view on how each has affected you and your day.

Making It Work With Your Life

Your protocol needs to fit your life, not the other way around. Let’s look at how different lifestyles might approach this:

Early risers often find morning doses align perfectly with their natural rhythm, enhancing their productive hours. Night owls might prefer the nightcap protocol, experiencing afterglow upon waking.

What I have noticed so far is that those that are more analytical and type A, they have a hard time falling asleep if microdosing before bed. Where on the other hand, I’ve noticed that many creatives do enjoy the nightcap protocol and do not experience any sleep disturbances. 

These are anecdotal personal observations, and there is no way to predict which is best for you. Once you feel comfortable microdosing and you’ve found your sweet spot dose, then feel free to try taking your dose at different times of the day.

The Power of Observation

Journaling is highly encouraged and invaluable to your microdosing practice. Note your dose amount and timing, but more importantly, track how you feel. Are you sleeping better? How’s your energy throughout the day? How do you handle stress? These patterns will guide you to your throughout and even after your microdosing cycle. 

Pay special attention to your emotional landscape. Are you more patient? More present in conversations? Better able to handle life’s curveballs? These subtle shifts often signal you’re on the right track.

Journaling and tracking your doses really make all the difference when microdosing, Whether you are using pen to paper, a digital solution like Notion (use our template here), doodling daily or taking daily pictures of your life….all of these are vast containers of data that reflect your life back at us and adds valuable perspective moving forward.

How Long Is A Break?

A microdosing cycle is typically 6-8 weeks, some only do 4 weeks others do 10 weeks. Your ideal cycle duration is one that will be clear to you throughout your experience. Intuition plays a huge part of your microdosing experience. The same intuition that urged you to consider this practice is the same intuition that will inform you to take a break. Take my word for it, you’ll konw.

Trust your intuition here. Sometimes you’ll sense it’s time for a break or an adjustment. Listen to that inner wisdom. Your body knows what it needs.

Talk To Your Doctor

If you are currently taking any kind of pharmaceutical medications, please get the ok from your doctor before microdowing. 

Each individual is unique with their own medical history. Please always consult with your medical professional for precise guidance.

Stacking Power

I mentioned above that the Neurogenesis Stack is the most advanced protocol due to it’s complexity and level of discomfort.

It’s far from an elegant or comfortable protocol but many have reported that it’s very impactful and potent.
